Managing the flow of a conversation can be a complicated and daunting task for EFL learners. Their deficiencies in this area may come about as a result of sociopsychological factors, deficits in sociocultural understanding or from a lack of appropriate linguistic resources. This study looks at the results of assigning conversation roles to students in an attempt to equip them with the linguistic skills necessary to manage conversation flow. A group of intermediate level students were observed before and after a 3-week treatment with assigned roles in class.
